The Grand Hotel & Resort hosted a fantastic week of golf, charity, and fun, featuring 80 former pro athletes competing for a $500,000 purse at The Lakewood Club. Players from all the major leagues – basketball, football, hockey, baseball and tennis competed head to head with hopes of showcasing their best game on the course.
Event Highlights:
- Pro-Am Kickoff: Monday’s shotgun start included VIP guests involved with our title sponsor partner Texecan, our players, and a round of 18 followed by lunch and cocktails.
- Tournament Play: Over three days, players competed in a 54-hole, modified Stableford format on the Dogwood Course.
- Standout Performances: Joe Pavelski, Mardy Fish, Tyler Clippard, and Josh Donaldson showcased exceptional play, with Pavelski finishing strong with 119 points after birdies on the last holes.
- Final Groups: Top players, including Aaron Hicks, Tony Romo, Mark Mulder, and Cody Ross, challenged for the win in an exciting finish.
- Charity Auction & Entertainment: Wednesday’s evening reception featured a performance from former American Idol contestant and entertainer, Taylor Hicks, and raised $15,000 for The Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranch and the Community Foundation of Texas Hill Country through live auction.
Special Moments:
- Brad May’s hole in one during the first round of competition on the 8th hole created some buzz early on in the week
- Rick Helling and Brice Butler led the shamble pairing with 79 points.
- The event’s success was thanks to the dedicated staff at The Grand Hotel and Lakewood Club, truly going above and beyond, along with volunteer support from the local club membership.
